Ozone Meter

What Is an Ozone Meter?

An ozone meter operates on the principle of ultraviolet (UV) absorption. A stable UV light source generates ultraviolet light, which is passed through an optical filter that isolates a single wavelength of 253.7 nm while blocking all others. This filtered light passes through a reference photoelectric sensor and then through the ozone absorption chamber before reaching the sample photoelectric sensor. By comparing the electrical signals from the reference and sample sensors and applying a calibrated mathematical model, the instrument accurately calculates the ozone concentration.

Ozone is a highly reactive gas. When released, its strong oxidising properties make it effective for sterilisation, disinfection, and detoxification. As a result, ozone is widely used in water treatment plant sterilisation, tableware disinfection, indoor air purification, fruit and vegetable preservation, and various medical applications. However, high concentrations of ozone can pose a significant health risk. Whether the goal is to harness ozone's oxidising power or to guard against its harmful effects, continuous monitoring of ozone concentration is essential.

An ozone meter is one of the most effective tools available for detecting and quantifying ozone levels. It converts information about the composition and concentration of ozone gas in the environment — whether in air or water — into readable data that can be used by personnel, instruments, and control systems for monitoring and decision-making.
